This week's Integrity Time letter is U for UNDERSTANDING! To be understanding means we try to see someone else's point of view. We put ourselves in their shoes and try to understand how they feel then show them that we care about them. That's showing empathy and understanding. Being understanding helps make our friends feel better when they are sad or upset. It will show that we care.
Make your own stress ball: This activity provides students something to do with their hands. Sometimes when we are stressed we feel a lot of tension throughout our body. This can help with focus and concentration and a relaxing feeling. Supplies: Two balloons, dirt or sand and a funnel Activity: Blow up both balloons. Put dirt or sand in one balloon, you may need a funnel to help. Once you have filled up the balloon tie it off. Then take the other balloon and cut off one inch from the top and place it around the balloon that has the dirt/sand. By adding this second layer of balloon you are protecting the other balloon and its content. Encourage your student to use the squeeze ball when they seem to have some tension in their body. If you do not have these supplies, allow them to punch a pillow or hug a stuffed animal they love tightly.

Hi! Happy Wednesday! I have a new activity that goes along with the posts I made March 31st and April 7th. Please scroll down and review those if you have not already read them. They begin with a picture of cotton and sandpaper. Then, I relate cotton with kindness and sandpaper are things that hurt. I show examples in my book reading posted April 7th.
Today, I would love to show you this toothpaste experiment I did this year with 2nd grade. All you need is a plate and a travel sized toothpaste. See picture below. Video of experiment posted below photo.
Begin with asking your child to make a mess as fast as they can. They usually get very excited when a mess is involved. I ask them to squirt out all of the toothpaste they can, as quickly as they can onto the plate. I even challenge them to empty the tube in less than a minute. I posted a video of this below.
Then I challenge them to get all of the toothpaste back in the same container! I ask them to predict whether or not they can do it as quickly as they squirted it all out. See video below. Once they try their very best to get it back in the tube, we talk about what hard work it was and what a mess it made! If you just show my videos, tell your kids it only took me 22 seconds to empty the tube and I got nothing back in the tube in 17 seconds. Just a big mess! I sum the whole experiment with a discussion about how easy it is for things to flow from our mouths. Sometimes, it is easiest to spread sandpaper words. Once the mess is made, words are spoken, actions done, it is extremely difficult to take them back. We talk about how words can not be picked back up and put back into our mouths and sometimes a simple "I'm sorry" doesn't always fix it. We explain what a mess our sandpaper words can make and how important it is to think before you speak and try to use cotton kind words from the beginning.
Good Morning! I hope everyone had an opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoy time with those you love this past weekend.
This week's Integrity Time letter is U for UNDERSTANDING! To be understanding means you realize the thoughts and feelings of others. I made you a video below! Enjoy! I have added a link below to a book that explains working on school at home. It lays out information in an easy to understand way for kids. Until we know more about when we will be back in school, please use this book as a means to talk with your child if they are struggling with this transition of school at home.
This week's Integrity Time letter has been T which stands for TEACHABLE! To be teachable means you are willing to learn from others. It means you are not too proud to say you do not know the answers, and that you are willing to let others teach you. Were you teachable this week? What new things did you learn? If so, you were being a Kid of Integrity!
I attached a picture of 30 fun things you can do with your family or all by yourself! Pick one to do this weekend. Make a BINGO card out of it and try to do 5 in a row. Have fun being teachable and trying new things! Have a great long weekend! Still not sure about this virus and why we are home? I have attached a book today that I hope you will find very helpful. Please click on the attachment below to read. If you want a fun video to watch, please scroll down to my very first post to watch the Coronavirus Comic just for KIDS! This week's Integrity Time letter is T for TEACHABLE! To be teachable means you are willing to learn from others. It means you are willing to let others teach you. You can learn from your parents, teachers, coaches, and friends. Your teachers and I have had to be teachable while we have been out of school! We have all learned a lot about teaching through technology. Be willing to learn from others and do your best every day!
Last Tuesday, March 31st, I posted pictures of a box with cotton and sandpaper. Please scroll down and look at it really quickly. I have attached a video of me reading a book titled "Stick and Stone" by Beth Ferry. While I read the book, I talk about cotton kindness and how sandpaper actions can hurt. I have read this book and videotaped it with permission from the publishers Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. I hope you all enjoy it!
This week's Integrity Time letter is T which stands for TEACHABLE! To be teachable means you are willing to learn from others. Your teachers learned from their professors in college. Their professors taught them how to teach you to read and do math. They were willing to learn from their professors so that they could teach you great things. Follow your teacher's example by being willing to learn a lot today at home!
Happy Monday! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and had lots of fun and some rest!
I have added the video for the Pledge of Allegiance again to make it easier to access(see below). I have also added a video of me reading the Integrity Time letter of the week aloud. In case you are not able to get the video to play, I have also typed out the Integrity Time letter below. This week's Integrity Time letter is T which stands for TEACHABLE! To be teachable means you are willing to learn from others. It means you are not too proud to say you do not know the answers. You are willing to let others teach you. Today, be teachable. Ask for help if you do not know how to do something. Learn from others and do your best. I hope you all have had a blast with our Virtual Spirit Week! Today is animal selfie day! I would love to see your pictures with stuffed or real animals/pets!
This week's Integrity Time letter is S for SERVING! A person who serves has a servant's heart. That means they think of other's first and like to help people. If you have a servant's heart it means that you like to help other people not because you have to, but because you WANT to. Have you had a servant's heart this week? Spread cotton kindness! I have attached a self regulation workout for kids. It can be done inside on rainy days or outside on pretty days. It would be something great for your kids to do when anxiety or frustration runs high and everyone needs a break or just as a new part of your morning routine. I hope you all are able to enjoy your weekend! It's Get UP and MOVE day for our Virtual Spirit Week! I can't wait to see all of your moves today! This week's Integrity Time letter is S for SERVING! A person who serves has a servant's heart. They look for ways to help others instead of waiting to be asked. People with servant's hearts make the world a better place because they are usually thinking of others first and themselves last. Sensory walks are a great way to practice mindfulness and SOCIAL DISTANCING. This can be done anywhere. SAY: Today we are going on a sensory walk. A sensory walk is different than a regular walk because we will focus on one of our senses. ASK: What are our senses? (see if they can tell you) SAY: Would you like to focus on what we see, hear, smell or touch on our walk? Now that everyone has chosen a sense to focus on, you are ready. While on your walk, everyone can call out their sensory type and see if everyone else on the walk can experience the same sensory input. (ex: the smell of fresh cut grass, someone cooking out on a grill, etc.) Finally, have fun!!! or: Try it scavenger hunt style! See images below. This is just an extra one for fun while we were looking at scavenger hunt ideas :) It's Virtual Spirit Week! Don't forget to tell us your jokes today through your grade level FaceBook pages, your teacher's Remind 101, or even Mrs. Amanda's library time. Mrs. Amanda is reading books daily at 10:30 am on her FaceBook page Lil Jags Love the Library.
This week's Integrity Time letter is S for SERVING! A person who serves has a servant's heart. Children who serve help others not because they have to, but because they want to. Some ways to serve others: help brother/sister clean their room, help fold the laundry or put it away, or set the table for dinner. Look for many more ways to serve others today! If you like to begin your morning with the Pledge of Allegiance, the video is below under my March 23rd post! If any of you own the Candy Land game, I have a new way to play it. I have attached a picture below for how to play a slightly different way. It's a new way to discuss feelings while playing so your child may never catch on that you are getting them to communicate and share way more than usual. Enjoy! |
