Happy Friday!
Take time today to relax and be VERY good at having some FUN! I have posted pictures posted below of fun ideas. The first picture is one of my favorite toys, the second picture is a fun outdoor activity, and the last picture is an art activity I am going to try. Most importantly, just get up and enjoy the day doing whatever you like to do! I hope you have enjoyed this week's Integrity Time letter V for VERY. I know I am VERY lucky to have you all as students. I feel VERY certain you all are working hard to become good at learning something you want to do VERY well. I have attached my video below of me reading to you about our Integrity Time letter. Remember, whether it is an issue of integrity (like determination or manners) or an issue of learning something new (like baseball or math), through hard work and practice you can become VERY good at something! Your hard work will pay off and you'll become a VERY good Kid of Integrity!

This week's Integrity Time letter is V for Very. To become VERY good at something takes hard work and determination. You can become VERY good at issues of integrity. What is something that you need to improve upon? Do you need to be more loving, have better manners, become more optimistic? Whatever it is, it takes practice and hard work to make good choices. Your hard work will pay off and you'll become a VERY good Kid of Integrity!
I know this week we have worked at becoming VERY good at being kind. Today, I thought we could work also at being VERY good at calming ourselves down when we become upset. Try some of these ideas until you find something that works: counting as high as you can, deep breathing, walking, or creating a special calm down corner with items you love or something to color. On April 16th I posted instructions for how to make your own stress ball. I have attached a video today that may be more helpful. Try it here :https://family.gonoodle.com/activities/how-to-make-a-squishy-stress-ball You can practice your breathing and stress relief with GoNoodle's new Bear Breath activity below: https://family.gonoodle.com/activities/bear-breath or try these: family.gonoodle.com/activities/find-peace https://family.gonoodle.com/activities/shake-it-off
I recently read Enemy Pie to first and second graders. After we read the story, we made our own recipes for getting rid of our enemies. We called them kindness recipes. What was the one sure way to get rid of enemies? Was it to feed them worms or rocks in a disgusting pie? It was such a fun book for us to read together and predict what would happen next. I have attached the read aloud version of this book below. Enjoy it together as a family. Afterwards, create your own family recipe. Since this week is V for VERY, you all can become VERY good at putting together your own kindness recipe for your home. My example for school is below to give you ideas. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.
I thought you all might enjoy some familiar pictures from school. One thing I think we can all work on at home to become VERY good at is kindness. For some people this time is hard, scary, and even stressful. It can be easy to be annoyed with brothers/sisters. This week, practice becoming VERY good at being kind. Try cleaning your room, helping someone do something, complete chores without being asked, or use only kind words all day. One very kind thing you can do is send a thank you picture to your teacher. If your parents allow you, draw a thank you picture for your teacher. Ask your parents to text or email the picture to your teacher May 4th for teacher appreciation. I know this is a fun way to spread kindness!

I know last week we received big news that may be difficult to understand. It sometimes takes a long time to process change. Give yourself and your child a lot of patience and understanding as the information that we will not be returning to school this year may take time for them to comprehend. We are all going to have to work together to be determined to find the bright side of our time at home. This week's Integrity Time letter is V for VERY. I can't help but think we can take this extra time at home to become VERY good at something like riding your bike without training wheels, drawing, or building puzzles. I posted a video below of the Pledge of Allegiance and me reading this week's Integrity Time letter for you all to enjoy. I have attached a link to 230 dinner conversation starters for family discussions below. Maybe your family feels you have run out of things to talk about after being home together so long, maybe your children are bored, or maybe you just need something new to talk about over dinner. Take a look at the web page below and try the conversation starters out! www.ahaparenting.com/parenting-tools/communication/family-discussions
This week's Integrity Time letter has been U for UNDERSTANDING! See video below.
This week's Integrity Time letter is U for UNDERSTANDING! To be understanding means we try to see someone else's point of view. We put ourselves in their shoes and try to understand how they feel then show them that we care about them. That's showing empathy and understanding. Being understanding helps make our friends feel better when they are sad or upset. It will show that we care.
Make your own stress ball: This activity provides students something to do with their hands. Sometimes when we are stressed we feel a lot of tension throughout our body. This can help with focus and concentration and a relaxing feeling. Supplies: Two balloons, dirt or sand and a funnel Activity: Blow up both balloons. Put dirt or sand in one balloon, you may need a funnel to help. Once you have filled up the balloon tie it off. Then take the other balloon and cut off one inch from the top and place it around the balloon that has the dirt/sand. By adding this second layer of balloon you are protecting the other balloon and its content. Encourage your student to use the squeeze ball when they seem to have some tension in their body. If you do not have these supplies, allow them to punch a pillow or hug a stuffed animal they love tightly.
Hi! Happy Wednesday! I have a new activity that goes along with the posts I made March 31st and April 7th. Please scroll down and review those if you have not already read them. They begin with a picture of cotton and sandpaper. Then, I relate cotton with kindness and sandpaper are things that hurt. I show examples in my book reading posted April 7th.
Today, I would love to show you this toothpaste experiment I did this year with 2nd grade. All you need is a plate and a travel sized toothpaste. See picture below. Video of experiment posted below photo.
Begin with asking your child to make a mess as fast as they can. They usually get very excited when a mess is involved. I ask them to squirt out all of the toothpaste they can, as quickly as they can onto the plate. I even challenge them to empty the tube in less than a minute. I posted a video of this below.
Then I challenge them to get all of the toothpaste back in the same container! I ask them to predict whether or not they can do it as quickly as they squirted it all out. See video below. Once they try their very best to get it back in the tube, we talk about what hard work it was and what a mess it made! If you just show my videos, tell your kids it only took me 22 seconds to empty the tube and I got nothing back in the tube in 17 seconds. Just a big mess! I sum the whole experiment with a discussion about how easy it is for things to flow from our mouths. Sometimes, it is easiest to spread sandpaper words. Once the mess is made, words are spoken, actions done, it is extremely difficult to take them back. We talk about how words can not be picked back up and put back into our mouths and sometimes a simple "I'm sorry" doesn't always fix it. We explain what a mess our sandpaper words can make and how important it is to think before you speak and try to use cotton kind words from the beginning.
Good Morning! I hope everyone had an opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoy time with those you love this past weekend.
This week's Integrity Time letter is U for UNDERSTANDING! To be understanding means you realize the thoughts and feelings of others. I made you a video below! Enjoy! I have added a link below to a book that explains working on school at home. It lays out information in an easy to understand way for kids. Until we know more about when we will be back in school, please use this book as a means to talk with your child if they are struggling with this transition of school at home.
This week's Integrity Time letter has been T which stands for TEACHABLE! To be teachable means you are willing to learn from others. It means you are not too proud to say you do not know the answers, and that you are willing to let others teach you. Were you teachable this week? What new things did you learn? If so, you were being a Kid of Integrity!
I attached a picture of 30 fun things you can do with your family or all by yourself! Pick one to do this weekend. Make a BINGO card out of it and try to do 5 in a row. Have fun being teachable and trying new things! Have a great long weekend! |
